From the President...
Forward together…this theme from our recent 35th Reunion sums up how I embrace the privilege of being your new Class President. The opportunity to continue to grow friendships, to meet those I haven’t yet met, and to share in the struggles, achievements, joys and sorrows of our fellow ‘81ers is one I don’t take lightly. Thank you for trusting in me to lead you for the next five years.
I want to say thanks to Nina Lipton, Carol Kamm and all of the committee members who helped distill our hopes, expectations, and plans for a wonderful reunion into those three wonderful days. I wish all 500+ members of our class could have enjoyed the warm, nurturing, stimulating and inspiring weekend on campus on June 3rd to 5th. Some had attended for the first time; many were repeat participants, and some, like myself, haven’t missed a reunion yet. It is truly amazing how well we get along with one another as a class, when many of us only see each other every five to ten years.
At 500+ strong, we are a venerable force of women. We represent an incredible diversity of backgrounds, family dynamics, professional experience, goals and passions. I love reading the Record Book to get a glimpse of the lives of more than 200 of our classmates. No matter what we have done, where we have traveled, or what life has dealt us, we have a common bond in our shared experience at Wellesley. In some ways I see the photo of us on the Chapel steps from 1981 and feel like we are still those young, ambitious, energetic women. But we are better! We are still young at heart, open to new opportunities, and energetic as we seek new ways to stay healthy, fit, and happy.
I hope you will have an opportunity to get to know our new class officers: Jill Bristow, Penny Sawyer, Jen Colagiuri Eccles, and Anthea Raymond. Together with Mary Baker Wiley, who is so ably continuing as our Wellesley Fund Volunteer Committee Representative, our team brings enthusiasm, creativity and skill to the task of leading our class.
I hope each of you will reach out to your classmates in your local communities, through Facebook, at mini-reunions, and as you travel. Find out who lives in the city (using the Directory) where your next trip takes you, and reach out to someone! Let’s continue to move forward together!
